Hey! I’m Elyn, a second year in the Neuroscience Combined Honours program planning to add a minor in computer science. I am completely in love with my major and am very excited to share my passion for science with others at the SSSC this coming school year.

I was awarded a DSRI in Dr. Shawn Hayley’s lab this summer where we’re doing research on the genetic predispositions and neuroimmune interactions of Parkinson’s disease – so far I’m really enjoying it. In grade 12 I worked in the neuroscience lab at Nipissing University under the supervision of Dr. Andrew Weeks, so it’s lovely to be back in the lab setting this summer.

When I’m not studying or in the lab, you’ll most likely find me in the library, in the lab, or working at Dairy Queen or TD Place. Before university I played rep hockey for 12 years, and I hope to play intramurals this year.

In the past few years I have held many leadership positions, including the President of Student Council in grade 12, and the Captain of my hockey team in grades 11 and 12. Through the experiences in these positions I have developed many important leadership and time management skills and can’t wait to share them with other students in Kick-Start the Leadership stream this year at the SSSC.
