Mustafa H.

Hello! My name is Mustafa and I am a 4^th year Biology major, completing a minor Neuroscience, and pursuing medicine in the near future.

This is my second year at the SSSC! I’m excited to lead the Kick-Start Medical School Prep team along with Katie, and make the best out of the school year.

I am very passionate about helping others and have invested much of my time supporting various clinical settings such as CHEO and Hospice Care Ottawa. I am also passionate about research and have garnered experience in laboratory, field, and clinical research.

During my second year, I worked as a greenhouse assistant and had the pleasure of helping faculty members conduct ongoing research. Since then, I have been working for FarmForest Research Inc., an innovative company that develops agricultural products. Last year, I worked in Dr. Smith’s Lab and studied quorum sensing in self-incompatible fungal strains. I am currently working as a clinical research assistant at the CHEO Emergency Department with a focus on gastroenteritis and pneumonia.

This year I will be doing my Honours project in Dr. Akeminko’s Lab (uOttawa) using zebrafish as a vertebrate model for limb regeneration.

During my free time, I attempt to read books, but eventually get distracted by my mischievous dog!
