Each year the SSSC team organizes a variety of activities in which all Faculty of Science students can participate.
For the past two years, the SSSC participated in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. All students were invited to help pick up debris along the river on Carleton's campus. Over 20 students attended each year, including a group from the Eco Floor, a themed community in Carleton's residence halls.
The SSSC partners with the Carleton University Biology Society to offer an event where students can bring their plain lab coats and turn them into the envy of their labmates by adding spray paint, iron-on transfers and pictures.
Each year the SSSC forms a team, raises money and participates in CU Relay for Life. In winter 2014 our team held a bake sale on campus and, along with other fundraising, raised over $500 for the cause. As a whole, over 700 people participated CU Relay for Life and raised a total of $102,457.50 for the Canadian Cancer Society, which was the largest post-secondary Relay for Life in Canadian history!
The SSSC sponsors ski trips each winter semester. All students are invited to sign up and receive the discounted group rate once registration opens. Groups are picked up by bus at Carleton on a Friday afternoon and spend the evening skiing and snowboarding (location to be decided). At the end of the evening, the bus returns everyone to campus.
On Wednesday, November 11th the 3rd floor Inco Wing of Herzberg Laboratories will turn into a casino. Students will gamble to earn tickets and enter their name to win big prizes! All proceeds will go towards Syrian Refugee relief.
Don't have enough money to go to the Caribbean this year? Come to the SSSC on Wednesday, February 3rd the 3rd floor Inco wing of Herzberg Laboratories where we will be having summer fun! Bring your own beach ball and be ready to hang out in a lawn chair!
