If you have little or no coding experience and you are about to take your first course in computer science, you are embarking on a new adventure that will have many ups and downs. In the New to Coding series, you will be surrounded by students who are also learning code for the first time. Learn strategies and share your own knowledge to increase everyone's chances of succeeding.

In this series, you will:

  • Form a network of other first-year students who are new to coding and can help raise your level of skill and knowledge
  • Develop and grow as a coder and a communicator
  • Find out where to go for additional support when you just can't make it work
  • Build skills to troubleshoot issues in your code
  • Learn techniques for approaching C++, Java and Python
  • Hear about specializations and career options in the high tech industry from professionals currently working in the field
  • Get support and motivation from upper-year Computer Science majors who know the ropes and can't wait to push you to improve and succeed
  • Participate in a mini hack-a-thon

The New to Coding series will be led by Lina and Veronica, two upper-year students who entered the Computer Science program with no programming experience and thrived.
