Throughout our lives we are often placed in situations where we either sink or swim. The people who swim and overcome usually have one thing in common - they have laid the groundwork somewhere in the past to be prepared for situations that arise. The Science Leadership Series will provide you with the knowledge and opportunities you need to become a leader within the Faculty of Science and to have the building blocks necessary to advance as a leader in the future. You will not only learn the concepts of leadership, but you will have opportunities to practice the concepts in real-life situations.
To be a part of the series, you do not need previous leadership experience. You must, however, have a passion for helping others, realize your own talents and skills, enjoy solving problems, have a positive attitude, and have an insatiable appetite for setting and reaching ever higher goals.
In this series, you will:
Create an event from scratch: envision the event, "sell" your event, plan logistics, budget, and build a plan to execute the event
Students in this series will work in teams to create an event and present their idea to a panel of judges from the Office of the Dean of Science. The winning idea will be funded and the team will have the opportunity to execute their idea during the winter semester.
The Science Leadership Series will be led by Hazel and Elyn, both of whom have a myriad of leadership experience in and outside of Carleton.
Mondays from 2:30 to 3:30 pm
Workshops will take place on September 12th, September 26th, October 3rd, October 17th, October 31st, November 14th, and November 28th.
